Welcome. I’m so glad you found me. This is my first post ever and I am eager to help you out. When I first began on this treacherous journey of Alzheimer’s, I was lost. So many questions: “Where do you start?” , “How can I help my Loved One?” , and “What resources are out there?”. Overwhelming emotions: “God help me!”, “I’m devastated.”, and “Oh no… I’m alone in this.”
Speaking of resources, yes there are plenty out there, but in my opinion most were unable to help me quick enough. For example, books. I checked some out from the library but it was time consuming to read them when my time was so precious. I needed information and hands-on tips quickly. There was one resource that did help me get my bearings around this cruel disease quickly, The Alzheimer’s Association. I also found their site very easy to navigate. It’s a good place to start, especially if you have no idea what this disease entails.
In this blog I will try to share my lessons learned, practical advice and some tips that may help you on the journey with your loved one. While I do not have a medical degree, I do have nearly 10 years of time caring for my father. I have learned so much during the time I painstakingly watched my father deteriorate. I have experienced plenty and I am eager to share it with you. I hope, as I commit to this new endeavor, that I can be of some help, not only emotionally but also in practical ways.
One more thing, this is a hard road ahead of us…so be brave. You can do it.
Remember we are advocates for our loved ones. We are their eyes, ears, and voice.
Sending lots of love,
